Deadmau5 fires back at Arcade Fire's 'real instruments' comments

Today, it’s Canadian dance-music god Deadmau5 in a grudge match against Canadian indie-rock gods Arcade Fire. You may recall recently, when, during Arcade Fire’s Coachella set, frontman Win Butler took a couple cheap shots at dance music’s rise to prominence by, one, bringing some pretty rough Daft Punk imitators onto the stage with him to play a slowed-down version of “Get Lucky,” and two, shouting out “all the bands still playing instruments at this festival.” Well, Deadmau5, being the confrontational guy that he is, has fired back at the band on—you guessed it—Twitter, saying, “arcade fire needs to settle down. some dudes devote their lives to instruments, others to electronic composition by cpu, dafuqs yer problem?” among many other things.

Adam Marshall drops a 36-track XLR8R podcast mix

One of Canada’s true gems of techno and house music, Adam Marshall played a huge role in the formation of Toronto’s scene, leaving it in a much richer state by the time he left it than when he started. Along with ushering in the always-amazing New Kanada imprint, which is on the cusp of celebrating its 50th release, he’s now a central figure in Berlin’s club scene, both as an impeccable DJ and a producer in the highly respected Graze project alongside Christian “XI” Andersen. Fittingly, XLR8R tapped him to assemble their latest podcast mix, and it’s a doozy: 36 tracks clocking in at around 80 minutes.

Electric Zoo 2014 returns Labor Day weekend; presale tickets available April 29

New York City’s premiere electronic music festival is scheduled to return to Randall Island Park over Labor Day weekend (August 29-31) for its sixth annual event while ensuring the safest experience possible. According to an earlier Magnetic report, there was some concern that the event would not be granted permits after two drug-related deaths caused the cancellation of day three in 2013.
