The most impressive thing about Ellie Goulding is that her appeal spreads across multiple facets of the music world. Teen pop fans love to cheer for her and EDM producers love to remix her. The latest mix from Florida DJ/producer XXYYXX, Golden, only substantiates that diversity. Featuring DJ TEXTMEBACK, XXYYXX mashes up Goulding’s angelic Guns & Horses with the always delightful musings of Riff Raff. The Florida producer said he was “just having some fun” when he made the track. I would say it’s definitely on the silly side (as only a Riff Raff mashup can be). By fusing elements of indie dance and big room house, Swedish superduo Galantis crafts something altogether new with a balance of thoughtful, powerful production and a catchy aesthetic suitable for bedrooms and festival stages alike. Made up of Christian Karlsson of Miike Snow (pictured left) and Linus Eklöw of Style Of Eye, Galantis released an endearing official video today for their track You, the second single off their breakout self-titled EP.
Directed by Dano Cerny, the man also responsible for the duo's NSFW Smile video, our story follows a love-seeking SeaFox, a personification of Galantis' iconic, bioluminescent deep-sea kitty-cat-looking creatures from the cover of the EP (see below). Despite being approached in a friendly manner, the unsuspecting city has mixed reactions to the glowing, fur-covered face, but who hasn't been treated that way at some point, even while wearing their normal human face?
The new vid comes on the heels of Galantis' self-titled debut EP, which features four brand new tracks in addition to the already-heard Smile and You. Revolution continues the vocal-driven package with an uplifting arrangement that begins with soft verses and delicate piano before building slowly into a big room-inspired climax. Help follows a similar formula, showcasing the duo's original sound and combined musicianship through extended, thoughtful buildups leading to complex main sections that are no-doubt making EDM's mainstage mainstays a little jealous. Galantis peels off a more progressive feel in Friend (Hard Times), still dense with detail and accents to savor play after play. The Heart That I'm Hearingserves as the finale, built on another warm piano melody and a throwback trance feel in the percussion department.

As far as big room breakouts go, it's hard to ignore Dutch duo Vicetone. When last we saw them, they were helping Nicky Romeroclose out his set at Ultra. Now, they turn their attention towards remixing New Jersey trioCash Cash’s exuberant early tune, Overtime.
While the original sounded like an upbeat amalgamation of Daft Punk and Madeon, the remix is more suited for the main stage. Sugar-sweet synths pair perfectly with the sing-song vocals to deliver a high-energy track that is an infectious addition to their discography. Grab it on Spinnin Records'SPRS imprint on April 28.
